I Ching or the Classic of Change is the world’s oldest and most sophisticated system of wisdom divination, source of much of the east’s philosophy and culture. When we become a part of the deep dialogue Change represents we feel connected to the basic creative energy that shapes the world we live in, living in accord with the Way or Dao.

I Ching: The Symbolic Life gives you direct access to this dialogue and the myth and ritual world Change uses to model the course of the Symbolic Life. Developed through many years of scholarship and research and grounded in practical use, it presents the age-old symbols of I Ching in a step by step way that lets you use them directly and intuitively. It can make Change a part of your daily life.

After 20 years living abroad, I’ve come home to California and am living in Ojai, a beautiful valley inland from the Santa Barbara coast. I’m working with a group at the Institute for Cultural Change to establish a Center for the Study of Change. Take a look at www.instituteforculturalchange.org.

Expect news soon of retreats, workshops and conferences, new I Ching writing and a new translation, a lecture tour, online seminars and webcasts, a consultation service and an I Ching News Bureau soon.

If you are in the LA area, you can still register for:

Returning to the Well: An Interactive Seminar on the I Ching

A unique opportunity to study with one of the world’s great teachers

Stephen Karcher, Ph.D.

Presented by The C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles and The University of Philosophical Research

In this seminar, we will learn to use the I Ching to open an interactive space between where insight is born and where individual change occurs. This is a transformation of what the old Chinese sages called the heart-mind that dissolves fixed thought-patterns and promotes imaginative mobility. We will begin with making a question, exploring the techniques of turning a problem into the basis of a dialog. Next we will examine the hexagrams, trigrams and lines; and how they are produced and how they can be arranged into a Reading Layout. Finally we will discuss the choreographies of reading the answer and the circles of meaning through which change can speak to us.

Dates: Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28 Cost: $200

Time: 10:00am-5:00pm Continuing Education: 11 credits

30 people maximum; 1hr. Lunch; Two 15-minute breaks

Location: UPR Campus, 3910 Los Feliz Blvd., Los Angeles, CA

For registration, contact Pat Gentry at UPR: 1-323-663-2167
